| Title | Stable Reduction Theorem for Curves: A Nutshell View |
| Abstract | A fundamental result in algebraic geometry is the Deligne–Mumford compactification of the moduli space of curves, established via the stable reduction theorem for curves. This talk is the first in a series devoted to explaining the stable reduction theorem following the approach of Artin–Winters. In this first talk, we begin with the motivation and a prototype example, and outline the main ideas of the Artin-Winters argument; later talks will discuss the proof in more detail. |
