TITLEJacobsthal identity for Q(sqrt(-2))

ABSTRACT Recall that a classical result of Fermat states that for an odd prime p, the equation a^2 + b^2 = p is solvable in integers if and only if p is congruent to 1 modulo 4. Later on, Jacobsthal showed that the integers a and b can be expressed in terms of Jacobsthal sums. In this talk, we will present a Q(sqrt(-2)) analogue of this result. This is a joint work with K. Hashimoto and L. Long.
